CLEAN

Cool never had a flow so cold. From the mouth of hip-hop vocal artist Suave, first known as Hilton Clay Felton IV, keeping your cool under lyrical pressure is just the beginning of a rising emcee.

Born on October 2nd at the height of the 90’s, Suave entered the world along with the new voice of rap music which set the tone for a life aligned with his style of delivery: raw, stylized and unapologetic. Having grown up all over the popularly coined DMV (D.C., Maryland & Virginia) area, the young artist began to explore his wild side as a youth which included playing sports and getting into mischief like most children, watching cartoons and acting out some of his favorite martial arts films. For the amount of time spent “discovering” the world, Suave spent a great deal of time alone. During this period, he began to embrace his true passion for music and began singing in the choir at Rehobeth Baptist Church in Washington, DC.

However, the choir life didn’t withstand the calling for the streets  as the unorthodox  Suave took to the streets as a teenager and started becoming involved with the go-go bands who’ve influenced the nation with the renowned sound of snares and bass mixed with a little conga drums and hi-hat instrumentation. For all that DC represented at the turn of the century, Suave was right there to capture it in his youth as his influences included a blend of old soul from the likes of Stevie Wonder & Donnie Hathaway to the funk and synths of Jimi Hendrix and Prince to the unforgettable and game changing lyrics of his favorite Andre 3000, Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. One night on the highway created a sense of invincibility like none other as the sounds of UGK’s “Get Throwed” made him hit the highway at 100mph, stamping that it was rap music that he wanted to pursue and he wasn’t going to stop until he reached the height of success like those featured on the track that played every morning for three years straight.

Suave prepared for the days of being a regarded lyricist as he played the backfield in one of the local go-go bands. A member challenged him by saying that he couldn’t rap and from that moment since, Suave has been proving every challenger that he’s a champion with his unique approach to rhyming, offering versatility and a crazed sense of style that makes people ask “who is that?”

It didn’t take long for the right person to ask about Suave as his managers Swagg Money and Pop J, who have both been in and out the industry for years now helped develop a stable situation for the wild and still fresh emcee. A brief conversation turned into a partnership between the 3 of them who took to Suave after seeing the dedication he held as an artist and the drive that was within to make music.

Currently,  Suave who also refers to himself as “Shawty Like Dat” plays back and forth between his stage name and alter ego as it offers the challenge that he can never back down from. Continuously pushing himself to be better by listening and reinventing his approach with each recording, Suave’s creative drive steers him towards levels of difficulty in his delivery while staying true to the promise of a successful music career from which he knows he will reap the benefits. With a young son and daughter and music as the love of his life, the artist known as Clay Suave redefines what it means to pass on a name, by starting a legacy of cool for the generations who need definition of what it means to bring the heat.
