Thirteen people were wounded in a drive-by shooting that occurred in front of a subsidized housing complex in Washington D.C.'s Northwest section early this morning. Police are looking for two dark-colored vehicles seen driving past the housing complex.
Around 2:10 a.m., one person in a dark-colored vehicle began firing shots at bystanders in front of Tyler House — a 284-unit housing complex at the corner of New York Avenue and North Capitol Street. Though 13 individuals were injured in the shooting, the numbers in early reports fluctuated. Initially there were thought to be seven victims, until police gradually added to the grand total throughout the day.
"It was just crazy to hear all those damn shots... It sound like somebody was going to war," recalled a resident of the neighboring Sibley Plaza Apartments, who declined to give his name out of fear.
Other neighbors described hearing dozens of gunshots, accusations of which were confirmed by the aftermath of the early morning hours. Police spent much of the morning towing cars riddled with bullet holes, and collecting evidence from the scene, and have released surveillance footage which shows a group of people running and ducking for cover, as at least one person begins firing from the dark-colored vehicle. Another similarly colored vehicle can be seen trailing the one harboring the shooter on the one-way North Capitol access road.
Authorities are looking to speak with anyone with information on the incident.
