[‘NEWS] Twisted Teen’ Twins Sentenced to 30 Years for Murdering Mother

CONYERS, Ga. — In a story that seems ripe for a made-for-TV drama, two teenage twin sisters from Georgia's Rockdale County are currently serving time in prison for viciously killing their mother in January 2010. Newly revealed evidence shows the then 16-year-old sisters wove an intricate web of lies in an attempt to cover up their crime.

Earlier this year, Jasmiyah and Tasmiyah Whitehead signed a plea agreement in their case. Their confession was exchanged for 30 years behind bars. Through an open records request WXIA-TV in Atlanta obtained critical evidence that never made it to a courtroom and laid out a timeline in a three-part series titled "Twisted Twins" that chronicles events from the girls' arrest, interrogation and ultimately, their confession.

Part One: Confessed teen murderers initially claimed innocence

In part one of this report, the Whitehead sisters are seen in their initial interviews with police investigators. Watch as the teenage twins claim innocence. At first those investigators believed their story -- that the two sweet, 16-year-old girls had just discovered a gruesome scene.

But the longer they talk to investigators, the more their stories start to change. Watch the video below, as the Whitehead sisters lie to investigators hours after killing their own mother.

Part Two: Teens' trail of lies begins to unravel

Investigators said there was evidence that the Whitehead girls had tried to clean up the crime scene. Detectives smelled bleach in the carpet, saw bloody clothes in the wash and found more clothes that the twins had thrown away.

Watch part two of this report below and see how the twin's mountain of lies -- and detectives' case kept building over four months.

Part Three: Teen twin sisters describe how they murdered their mom

It was almost exactly four years after the murder. The once fragile-looking 16-year-old twins -- now aged and hardened by incarceration -- give police yet another version of the story. Only this time, it's not another denial. It's a confession.

Watch part three of this report below to see the teens' chilling confession to their mom's brutal murder.
