Spotlight on Michael Andre Braxton (Q & A)

Q: What's your artist's name, and where are you from?

A: I don't have a stage name, so I went with my birth name. Michael Andre Braxton. I was born in West Philly but raised in a town called Darby Township right outside of Sharon Hill. The city was a small-knit community when I was growing up and still is to this date. I love coming back whenever I can. It's usually a couple of times a year.

Q: Why do you love music?

A: Like most black households growing up and listening to music was what we did back then and still do. I can remember all types of music being played in my house. It was a mixture of everything. Back then, it was radio, CDs, and vinyl. Now everything is streaming and digital radio. I love to listen to everything. I can go from Pop to R&B, hip-hop, talk radio and listen to a podcast. I never stick with just one thing. Every Sunday before, my grandmother would go to church and play Church music before heading off to church. So music is in my blood.

Q: What makes you different as a music artist?

A: I stand out because I drop instrumental tracks that you can go out and chill to. It's more like hip-hop LO-FI. It hits you with some Relaxing effects. And because I don't hit you with no lyrics, it comes off with a smoother mix. It's hip-hop chill-out music on another level. Sometimes you want to listen to beats and vibe to them. But, overall, the music comes out with bits of help and keeps you active and busy during your day. Being a hip-hop artist who comes out with instrumental tracks, I feel I have the upper hand on many folks already.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A: I hope to run a successful Pr firm that can help artists and others help them gain a much-needed presence in the media forefront. But I also see myself in 5 years with my music being played on tv shows and movies. I would also love to see myself acting in a couple of films and whatever God has in store for me.

Q: What do you want to accomplish in life?

A: I want to leave several successful businesses off to my kids and let them continue to run them and leave them off to their kids. So pretty much let it stay in the family. I think that's the goal with any family generation at this point. So show them its other opportunities instead of always working for someone else.

Q: What do you bring to the music world?

A: The music I tend to make is about the chill and ride-out vibe. You want the hot and bang drum tracks and fly-ass samples. Then my music is what you need in your life. My road to success in the music business is never a straight one. I started working with indie artists from the Philly area, and my hard work paid off when my homie Kurupt from the Dogg pound was able to get his career off the ground. He later had me doing promotional work for a couple of his projects. However, I hope to be the one who brought balance to the masses, and they were able to enjoy it.

Q: What do you want to be remembered by?

A: I want people to remember me as a Human being who was humble, peace-loving, and helpful. Always willing to give the game and help others. I want to tell the readers, " Don't let this long path get you down. Your future success depends on your grind, and the hustle gets you down; it's normal! You will bump your head a few times until you get this game right. Be a student of the game and learn from others who had success. But if you are serious and passionate about your music, this will be an amazing and fun experience.
