What Is Web Design?

What is Web Design? Web Design is the process of designing a website from the front end look and feel that the user sees and interacts with, to the back end workings of the website that determines what happens with that user interaction. Whether the user is requesting data from the website, entering data into the website or making purchases, it is the responsibility of the web designers to take all of that into account.

When it comes to the front end coding of the website there are many choices of programming languages including plain old HTML, Java, JavaScript, Basic, ASP.NET , C, C++, C#, PHP, Perl, Joomla, Flash and many more. The choice comes down to the expertise of the individual or team that will be developing the website and their familiarity with a particular programming language that will determine what discipline will be used.

The back end of the website consists of code plus data. The same programming languages sited above are also used to code the underlying workings of the website such as the storage and retrieval of data and any processing that must be performed on that data. All websites work on data whether coming into the website, going out or both. That data, whether going into or coming out of the website must be stored, retrieved and otherwise acted on. The choice as to how to store, retrieve and interact with that data can be as simple as storing it as text on a web page on up to employing a sophisticated database management or warehousing system that can store almost all of the data of the world such as Google’s massive search databases that span many countries around the world.

If you are new to computer programming and web design then it is advised that you either start out with an easier programming language such as HTML or an application that helps you with a lot of the coding such as DreamWeaver by Adobe. If you intend to make computer programming and Web Design a career choice then you may want to consider starting out with HTML and then adding in some JavaScript for more functionality. That way you learn the fundamentals of programming from the ground up and have a solid foundation to build upon instead of getting trapped into letting software make all of the decisions for you.

It is easy to design and code a simple web page or small website in an evening. However, as the complexity of the application grows, there will be a need to employ more and more people to code and maintain the website in order to keep it running. Also, computer programs are now being used in every facet of our lives and on every manner of product and device. Because of this there will continue to be a demand for web designers, database administrators and computer programmers for many years.

There are lots of ways to learn about Web Design from a simple Google search for HTML, to purchasing books on your language of choice, on up to attending a community college or formal educational institution. The choice of how to learn comes down to how much you want to learn, what you want to accomplish and how much money you are willing to spend.

If you, on the other hand, don’t want to be bothered with the web design process yourself, but need a sophisticated website designed and built that employs the latest technologies and you need that website optimized so that it reaches its intended audience and attract its fair share of customers, then there are lots of web design firms out there that can accommodate you. One of them that does employ the latest web design technologies and implements the latest in S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimization) techniques to ensure a successful website is Sky Hi Studios Web Design department.
