Tyler Perry Blogs With Anger, Cancels Madea Tour & Asks “Why Are People So Evil? ”

ATLANTA -- Director Tyler Perry has cancelled the last leg of his "Madea Gets a Job" tour, hoping to send a message to so-called "bootleggers" that he's had enough.

In a message posted on his website Monday, Perry announced he is cancelling the remaining live performances because so many people are buying and reselling show tickets at inflated prices, sometimes two or three times face value, he said.

"I set a ticket price for the show starting at $25...so that everyone could get a chance to come out and see the show," Perry said in the statement.

He said he's dealt with bootleggers for years, but this is the worst he's ever faced.

Perry also said people claim to be him online, advertising and selling tickets to fake meet and greet parties.

"DON'T FALL FOR THIS!" he wrote. "That's not me."

In a YouTube video made earlier this year to promote the tour, Perry warned his fans about this very problem, appearing as his popular character Madea.

In Monday's web post, Perry took a serious, clearly frustrated tone.

"Why are people so evil? Why can't people just get legitimate jobs and stop trying to do the wrong thing all the time?"

He apologized to fans and promised they would receive refunds, but said of the cancellations: "my hands are tied."

In April, Perry's tour performed five shows at Atlanta's Fox Theater to nearly sold out crowds.

"We're usually over 90% capacity for Tyler's shows," said Allan Vella, Fox Theater's general manager. "We look forward to it every year and the crowd really does."

Online ticket resales are legal in Georgia. Perry said this would be the last live Madea tour and apologized again to those who won't be able to see it.
