DJ'S 4 FEMALE RAP - ARTIST OF THE WEEK 3-2-09
...............................................................................................................................

Fiya aka MS. CORE DJ aka Dj Fat Alberta was born & raised in New Orleans but now lives in Houston and is a triple threat to this entertainment industry. She started out by writing poetry, gospel and comedy, and prides herself as being the crunkest and most famous fat girl of the south. However, she admits that being a fat black woman in this industry is NOT easy and it is NOT the norm. But her passion, persistence and desire to be a well rounded entertainer will NOT allow this Diva to give up.

What some may not know about “MS CORE DJ,” is that she knows what true sacrifice, hard work and dedication feels like. For a few months Fiya was homeless and forced to live out of her car. At that moment she could have given up but she strongly feels that, “If you really believe in something you should never take your eye off the prize.” A major independent signed her then later told there was NO market for her but she never let the non believers stop her from doing what she loves and does best.

At this time she has managed to beat the stereotypical odds that were against her and has traveled across the globe as a multi-talented entertainer. You may have caught her on BET Uncut or even making an appearance on Comic View. Or possibly as an opening act for Too Short, Trina, Devin the Dude, Bun B. and many more. She has won a numerous amounts of competitions, been an actress in several stage plays, hosts parties and shows, ghost writes for male artists in the south and is the only hype woman/ female beat boxer in the game today.

“Everything I’ve gotten I earned. When everybody is sleeping I’m up. My grind is delicious cuz I eat off this shit. I believe in myself and love myself. Being from New Orleans you gotta be comfortable in your swag... I am Dj Fat Alberta cuz just like Fat Albert I am the hippest, coolest chick on the block. I’mma muthafucka not insecure at all but I am human and of course it hurts when people say nasty things about my weight. But that didn’t stop me from having the number one video show in Houston... fat people make up the majority of America. So when they say there is No market for us I say why?”

Fiya is now the CEO of Fiyaworks Entertainment, which offers Explosive Music, Marketing and Management. After waiting on people she realized that you can’t keep spinning your wheels not working you gotta network to build your net worth. Current singles "Salt Shaker Drop" and "Dirty South" (street anthem) are taking the streets by storm. Yung Tonka (seven years old), Shawty Margarita, Kausion, The Money Makaz, Shay Boogie from the Bronx, Squally (producer), Ferrari and K.B aka Mr. Wired Up are all artists that she is working with that you will be hearing from real soon.

“If my eyes were to close today I have No regrets I wouldn’t change anything. I had a scholarship for journalism but turned it down because I wanted life to teach me. Couldn’t ever see myself doing the corporate thing to actually have to get up get and work for someone. Women bring structure to any situation with softness and diverseness. With the current state of hip-hop and females being so transparent it’s almost as if the song is incomplete. But it’s definitely a new day for music and you’re going to see more females on the rise".

I am pleased to have this entrepreneur/entertainer extraordinare as this week’s FEMALE Artist of the WEEK!! Congrats to you!! May your hard work continue to pay off!!

News: Largest union in NYC request James E. Davis Exhibit
HAPPY NEW YEAR

District Council 37 (DC37) has requested for the James E.

Davis Art Exhibit to showcase in front of over 1000 union members from all over NYC for Black History Month

Thursday February 12, 2009
6:00pm - 11:00pm

District Council 37
125 Barclay Street
New York, New York
10007

The James E. Davis Art Exhibit will relocate for one day to DC 37 Headquarters to celebrate Black History Month.

Than, it will return to (80 Arts)
The James E. Davis Art Building
80 Hanson Place (off of South Portland Avenue) Brooklyn, NY to complete the exhibition
January 20 - February 27, 2009
Reception: January 19, 2009
(Dr. King's Holiday)
Wednesday - Sunday
11am-6pm

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) is proud to present the timely and provocative exhibition Remembering the Life & Times of James E. Davis. The James E. Davis Stop Violence Foundation (JEDSVF) in association with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Strong Enough Achievers Foundation (SEAF) and MoCADA have collaborated on a joint effort to bring to the viewing audience rare and never seen before photographs and memorabilia of the late Councilman James E. Davis who grew to iconic levels during and after his lifetime. This powerful exhibition will open to the public on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday (observed), in order to demonstrate the powerful influence that Dr. King had on young people all over the world, who like James E. Davis put Dr. King’s message of peace and hope into practice. The exhibition opening also coincides with the closing reception of the “I AM A MAN” exhibition at MoCADA that was inspired by the 1968 Sanitation Worker’s Strike where Dr. King was assassinated forty years ago.

Councilman James E. Davis was born on April 3, 1962 and died on July 23, 2003, (assassinated inside New York City Hall) at the age of forty-one. His professional life began in the New York City Police Department where he quickly moved up the ranks to becoming an instructor in the Police Academy. During his relatively short life, he revolutionized the peace movement in the turbulent decade of the 1990s in his hometown of Brooklyn, New York and all over the world in his travels throughout Africa, the Caribbean and Israel. Although widely considered a pioneer and master of marketing, James E. Davis was also considered a maverick in the political world and often ambitiously and successfully challenged the political “machine”. James E. Davis inspired young people all over Brooklyn, New York who knew first hand that the impossible was in fact very possible with his win to the New York City Council in 2001. This first major US exhibition of Davis' life work shows the evolution of his career and coincides with rare video footage and honorary awards.

Uncannily prescient, Davis shared the sensibility of what became known in Brooklyn, NY as the "Love Yourself /Stop The Violence" peace movement. Inspired by the teachings and work of Dr. Martin L. King Jr. and Mohandas Gandhi, Davis believed that local and universal peace were inseparable. As he travelled the world, Davis inspired generations of peace activist.

Davis going home service was aired live, viewed by millions and attended by over fifty thousand people.
