I'm glad he cleared that up! I agree with everything he said. I clear the dance floor more than a couple of times a night, because i'm not scared to play new shit i believe is HOT. As a DJ you're supposed to put people up on New Music. Not play the same shit everybody else is. But what is a DJ to do when other DJs changing up there playlist because of YOU??? I guess that means i'm INFLUENTIAL!!!..lol

this is interesting:

2 key things that this brother said:

1) "UNPREDICTABLE"- I have to agree with this: My influences growing up in the culture had this exact same thing in common- From Red alert, to Flash, JMJ, flex, doo-wop, Tony Touch, even clue, had their own niche, or their "brand" to get them out there. Even though you might of had the list of the tracks of the mixtape, it still had an original feel, see arguably the mixtape blueprint-" Doo Wop 95 live" or even Tony touch's 50 mc volumes!

2. Don't always be the crowd pleaser- this is one of the reason why I HATE spinning @ clubs! people are sooo closed minded sometimes when there is a new track that a Dj may play, which is hot, and fits the format, hell even blended right, people clear the floor like roaches exposed to light! What's the Deal with that!!???
I think this is one of the reason DJ's are sounding the same, or playing the same shit @ clubs.. shit gets played out after a while, then again, what can u do when the promoter and the owner are basically playing puppetmasters to these DJ's and they can't make their own lane!

@ the end of the day, whatever you spin, I think you should always be experimenting with new music, and BLENDS.. Clue & Dirty Harry had some of the best blend series ever in mixtapes! Who is to argue that the idea can't be taken to heart and create something new????

just my $2 worth.........
