Recording artist Juanita Craft is the epitome of inspiration. Her remarkable life journey has qualified her to compose music that stirs the heart and uplifts, encourages and heals the soul. Juanita’s walk in faith has given her the deep wisdom required to sing with unwavering conviction about hurt, disappointment and pain, as well as restoration, fulfillment and joy. Juanita’s professional and spiritual ambitions have always been larger than life. She strives for excellence in a way that exceeds what she has already accomplished no matter how high she’s climbed. The bright scholar earned a degree in Physics from Atlanta’s prestigious Spelman College, where she performed in the Glee Club and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. While obtaining her second degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, Juanita was intellectually challenged for the first time. She studied, prepared and grinded behind closed doors until she completed her mission, and her approach to music is no different. For Juanita, 99.5% just won’t do. She strives to gain respect and have longevity versus temporary mainstream glory. In that same vein, she expended countless hours perfecting her vocal and writing skills enlisting the help of industry professionals such as singer and song writer Babbie Mason, and vocal coach and singer Robin Brown with whom she has toured internationally. For most of her background vocals, Juanita selected singer/bass guitarist Debra Killings who has worked with Grammy winning artists such as Monica, TLC and OutKast, to deliver the best possible product. Having begun her musical career in the church at the age of three, singing has always been a vital part of Juanita’s life, almost like breathing, but marriage, motherhood, and work caused the Aerospace Engineer to delay her dreams. “I am experiencing my breakthrough,” says the now single mother of two. “After all that I have struggled through personally, and holding back my talent for so many years, I feel like now is the time.” Juanita’s smooth and soulful soprano tone draws a striking resemblance to legendary songstress Denise William’s, but that’s where the comparisons end. She has been anointed with a style all her own- a melodic and therapeutic voice that soothes the troubles of hardened souls and holds a crowd in the palm of her hand when she parts her lips. Juanita is ready to fulfill her divine purpose in life and use her voice as an instrument for God. “For many years I did not know that singing was my gift; but, I always knew the healing effect music had on my life and I grew to have a passion for ministering to others through music. Juanita’s debut CD God Has A Plan For You, which she also serves as Executive Producer, is a classic inspirational album produced with meticulous care. In addition to being filled with experiences and human conditions that transcend race, age, or gender, it is captivating, and embraces all of the things that she embodies: beauty, grace, kindness and cool sophistication. While the lead single “Learn to Forgive” is an easy listening, mid-tempo track tinged with R&B and Soul rhythms, its vocals were inspired by raw pathos. “I was going through an experience that left me filled with anger and bitterness to the point where I couldn’t stand myself,” recalls the chanteuse. “God gave me those lyrics once I decided that I was going to forgive, and it was amazing how my heart just freed up.” Juanita’s lyrics, absent the melodies, are poetry that feeds the starving soul and will inspire generations to come. Clearly, God has a plan for her.
