There are a lot of different things going on in sports, some exciting and very interesting and some really annoying. For example the NBA playoffs, nothing is more exciting this time of year than the quest for the NBA title. I’m not a hockey fan but I must admit the hockey playoffs are making some noise as well. If your not a hockey fan then you may not know about the head to head competition between the Washington Capitol’s Alex Ovechkin and the NHL’s version of Lebron James in Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby.

As a matter of fact every series except for one is tied at 3 a piece. Boxing is also starting to make a little bit of a come back. There have been some key match ups in the last 7 months and even more being lined up for the future. Mainly talking about, Floyd Mayweather coming back to face Manny Pacquiao. This comes just after Pacman beat the breaks off of Ricky Hatton earlier this month. Coincidently Floyd put Hatton down in the 10th round himself back in December of 2007.

We have a lot of off-season excitement as well with the NBA draft on the way, and all the different moves going on in the NFL, and I’m not talking Brett Favre. I’m talking about new faces in new places and watching to see where the rest of the big name free agents will land.

With all of that going on there is still some things that I’m so tired of in sports as well. First off the number one thing bugging me isn’t baseball but it’s on the list we’ll get to it later. The top thing annoying me is, wait for it… Congress involved in sports. Once again with everything going on in the world from the war over seas, to unemployment, to the many injustices we see in America congress wants to focus their energies and out tax money on sports.

Before I was extremely annoyed with them getting involved with baseball, a fun entertaining sport. I remember thinking to myself next the thing congress will do is get involved in America’s Next Top Model, or American Idle if they don’t like the way the shows are being handled. The sports world has nothing to do with the welfare of America so why is congress concerned. They need to let baseball deal with baseball and just watch like the rest of us, because they are spectators just like the rest of the world.

Now they’re trying to get involved with the NCAA football bowl games. Now I would love a playoff system in college football as much as anyone else, but come on, how’s congress going to try and tell someone how to play their game. How is congress just going to try and step in and change something that’s not theirs to change? I wish they would work on changing some of these other things that are really affecting our country, instead of spending money on their entertainment.

The other thing I’m tired of is Roger Clemens and his steroid scandal. Just when we thought he was done in the news, we turn on the TV and it’s Roger all day on every sports show and channel. I actually turned my television away from the sports channels yesterday until it was time for the Boston Orlando game. At this point in time nobody using steroids in baseball is surprising any more and I just don’t care.

Know what on second thought there’s one player left that I’d be shocked about and that’s Derek Jeter. If I found out Jeter was on the juice I’d look up say, “wow him too”, and then I wouldn’t have a second thought about it. I don’t mind the media reporting on who’s the latest to get busted, but I wish they would treat it like the weather. For example “Today Manny Ramirez was suspended for a banned substance and is out for 50 games, and in other news…” Instead it becomes an hour-long discussion for the next three days.

I’ll end with this, it’s not just Clemons, I’m tired of hearing about baseball’s steroids scandal period. We get it, baseball has been dirty for a long time and there is still some dirt to clean out, fine. There are some good, and exciting things going on in baseball, but because I’m being bombarded with all the steroid bull, I can’t force myself to watch the news on all the other stories going on in the sport. And I feel sorry for the baseball world because it’s a struggling sport that’s constantly losing steam because of the steroid issue.
