The Tarheels Make It 5 Defeating the Spartans 89-72

At the end of it all, I realized that my bracket doesn’t matter as long as my team wins. Monday night my first love pulled out another national title, it’s fifth to be exact, as the North Carolina Tarheels defeated the Michigan State Spartans 89-72.

Winning a national championship, the final chapter in Tyler Hansbrough’s storybook collegiate career. He had already won every individual award that he could, and he had been to the final four, but to win it all is the reason he came back for his senior year.

The Tarheels controlled this game from the start, getting out early on the Spartans, behind Ty Lawson’s seven steals, along with the thirteen turnovers Michigan State gave up in the first half. The first six baskets were scored by five different UNC players and also set the pace for an 18-point lead that Carolina controlled for the entire game.

Lawson set a finals record with 8 steals to go with his 21 points and 6-assist. Hansbrough had 18 points and 7 boards, and Davis had 11 points and 8 boards. But it was Wayne Ellington who scored 19 points, that was named Most Outstanding Player of the final four. If Deon Thompson could have scored one more point Carolina would have had 5 players in double figures. , in their route of Michigan State.
