The first weekend of March Madness is over and maaaaan, what a weekend it was. In the first two rounds things were a little bumpy for your boy, just a little, but by the end of the weekend I felt pretty good about my bracket. And if you took my advice you should’ve had a good weekend too.
First off, damn
Arizona; they were supposed to have gone home in the first round. Instead they find themselves in the “Sweet 16” preparing to do battle against
Louisville. I had Louisville right, but they were supposed to be playing
Wake Forest. My bad I forgot Chris Paul isn’t there anymore, and because of that half of my Midwest bracket is shot.
Wait, it get’s worse for your boy. Though I’m proud of my home city,
Dayton screwed my bracket too, by beating
West Virginia who, by the way I had in the “Sweet 16”. Instead
Kansas swoops in and beats Dayton, and now they’re in the “Sweet 16”. That makes two wrong in the same region. The only ones I got right in the Midwest were Louisville and
Michigan State, now if they act right this week I’ll get a 100 on my Midwest finals bracket.
Now we’re on to the west region, where I looked like a genius. The only game I was wrong about was
Mississippi State in the first round. I didn’t have them getting past
Purdue, which means I had Purdue, right where they are, in the “Sweet 16” preparing to play
UConn. Kudos to me for picking
Missouri over
Marquette, and man why did
Memphis do
Maryland like that? Oh, now I remember Maryland’s
Greivis Vasquez was talking slick about the Tigers before the game, and that fueled them to Maul the Terps all game long, to the tune of 89-70.
Next up the east region where I only missed two games, but got the final four of that region right. I was wrong about
O-State losing to
Tennessee (congratulations Cowboys). And I had
Florida State beating
Wisconsin. However I had each of those teams losing in the second round which kept me alive in the bracket challenge, because I was right about
Pitt facing
Xavier, and
Villanova facing
Duke. Holla atcha boy!
Finally the region I thought would cost me the most trouble the dirty south. I actually did ok here, with the exception of Illinois blowing it in the first round, as well as
Clemson. Luckily I had both of them blowing it and round two, which once again gave me some breathing room. I was right about
UNC facing
Gonzaga, and
Syracuse facing
Oklahoma. And big shout outs to North Carolina’s
Ty Lawson who has officially put all other teams on notice that he’s back, and he’s serious.
All in all 14 out of 16 isn’t too bad. The question is will my “Elite 8” picks go as well, I’ll let you in on that secret tomorrow. So rest well tonight and let’s get ready to do it again on Thursday.
