Once Again Brett Wants Back In, But For Who? The VIKES!!

I know I’m a day late on this topic, but I just couldn’t sleep well without addressing it. Your man Brett Favre is toying with the idea of coming back to the NFL. He was released from the Jets, and the minute it happened the rumors started flying that another return was yet on the horizon.
Same Brett Favre off-season story, just a different season. Allow me to start off by saying that even though I personally get tired of Favre’s indecisiveness year after year, I do respect a man that still wants to play. It’s hard to walk away from doing something you love; especially something you’ve done most of your life. It’s the same reason Janet Jackson, and Madonna keep putting out albums even though they suck. They just keep trying & hoping for one more great ride.

Another part of it is the limelight. When you’ve been in the limelight for so long, and then you wake up one day and no one is checking for you it’s hard for some people to deal with that. For athletes it’s even harder, because more than likely they’ve been getting press since they were in high school. Think about it; if people have been sweating you, telling you that your great, your this your that for years and then one day it all comes to a halt. That could be overwhelming.

However, and you knew I was about to bring the however, at some point in time you’ve got to accept that your time is up. Another reason why I think stepping away from something you love is harder on professional athletes, especially if they never made post career plans. I say that because actors, and musicians can continue their careers damn near forever, but for athletes they can only go for as long as their bodies allow them too.

When you’re a competitive person, who’s always pushed yourself not allowing the media or even your own mind to tell you that you can’t do something, then you seek to push yourself once again. But for athletes it’s their bodies that are telling them it’s time to sit down and they can’t always accept that. And they don’t understand you can’t defy Mother Nature, just ask the best to ever do it, Michael Jordan.

So in Brett Favre’s case I understand he wants to keep playing, especially since he hasn’t sat out, he’s played year in and year out so his body is still use to playing unlike Jordan who missed a season and a half. But over the last few years his production hasn’t been what it once was, and he’s got a torn bicep. That’s not exactly a small injury when you’re a quarterback. Add that injury to a subpar performance and the results just aren’t that great.

For the Minnesota Vikings, I really don’t know what they’re expecting from one year of Brett Favre, because let’s be honest you know he’s one and done. That would almost put the Viking’s in position to take a step back, because the following season they’ll have to implement another quarterback. Now if it was a game of Madden and you’re in franchise mode then yeah Favre for a season could equal a ring, but this is the real life NFL and it takes more than a season for a quarterback to get acclimated just look at the Jets last year.
