President Obama & Mitt Romney Go Head-To-Head on 60 Minutes

President Obama and Mitt Romney shared the bill on 60 Minutes Sunday (Sep. 23), where they both separately addressed their vision for the country.

Speaking of his opponent, whom he holds a small but notablelead over in several polls, the president demanded the Romney outline his position on Iran and Syria. “If Gov. Romney is suggesting that we should start another war, he should say so,” Obama said.

When brought to task on what changes he would make if granted a second term, Obama noted “taking responsibility,” for his missteps as the most important item on the agenda, but also explained that opposition from Congress has hindered his progress. “I've been disappointed in trying to get more cooperation from those folks,” he said. “And that's something that we're going to have to continue to do.”

As for the progress he's made throughout his term, Obama made his political feats clear. “The fact of the matter is that what we've done has been effective in improving the situation in every area that we're talking about. When I made the decision to save the auto industry, that save a million jobs. One in eight jobs in Ohio is dependent on the auto industry. So we've actually seen success.”

Despite his push for job creation, less than 100,000 new jobs were added in the month of August, even though the unemployment rate dropped slightly. The state of the economy, remains an important factor, one that Romney has attacked.

During his segment, the 65-year-old made his case for why he is better for the job. “I can tell them specifically what my policy looks like. I will not raise taxes on middle income folks,” he explained. “I will not lower the share of taxes paid by high income individuals, and I will make sure that we bring down rates, we limit deductions and exemptions so we can keep the progressivity in the code, and we encourage growth in jobs.”

For the last week, Romney has had trouble convincing the American public that his focus is on those middle and lower income citizens. Soon after a damaging recording from May leaked to the ‘Net, the Republican hopeful stood his ground on his explosive statements. He later rehashed his position, stating that his focus is on “100 %” of Americans, rather than the “47%” which he spoke on during the secretly recorded dinner with wealthy investors.
