“THROW DOWN IN D-TOWN”—It’s A Dallas Thing!

DALLAS, TX, DECEMBER 28, 2009: The City of Dallas’ Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway partners with Dr. Audrey Newsome, CEO of Campus Harmony, INC to bring to Dallas one of the most fun and exciting local entertainment events to date! “The Throw-Down in D-Town”. This competition will provide the city an opportunity to showcase and experience the talent that exists in our own backyard. The event kicks off on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Stone Trail in Addison for four (4) weeks, twenty (20) bands total with four (4) finalists; five different bands will compete every Tuesday thereafter at 7:00 pm, with the finale culminating during All Star Week on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. On that night, the four (4) weekly winners will compete against each other for the championship. The Grand Champion will be announced that evening by Mayor Pro-Tem Caraway and proclaimed the best R/B Band in the DFW Metroplex. In addition to winning the Grand Champion title, the winning band will also receive a prize of $5000, and more importantly, a deserving student will also receive a $2500 scholarship to study music at a college or university.
This event will, at the same time, allow the community to appreciate the home grown musical talent and also give back so that we also foster the young talent that is our future, while we promote the importance of arts and music in building a foundation of character and leadership in our youth.

Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, Dwaine Caraway knows that neighborhood and civic involvement is an ongoing mission, not something that is done only when elections take place. Dwaine is visible and helping the community on a year-round basis.

The weekly winners will compete against each other during ALL-STAR WEEK for the finals. A panel of celebrity judges and audience participation will select the champion for the Grand Prize of $5000.
