WHUT UP ! THE X IN DA BUILDIN ! REPPIN SIMPLY RAW RECORDS & 26 YEARS ON THE CUT ! I been spinnin since Halloween 1982 & I consider old school any thing 10 years or older. My 1st record was given 2 me by my older brother & it was PLANET ROCK ! My record collection is around 90 crates deep plus I lost a good 10 crates in a flooded basement & another 5 were stolen. My music goes back from the early 60's to the present. I still bring cuts like ATOMIC DOG, THE BIG PAY BACK, PLANET ROCK, RUN DMC & ERIC B & RAKIM CLASSICS to every party. MUCH LUV & RESPECT TO THE CORE AND ALL THE PIONEERS DJ'S, MC'S, DANCERS, GRAFFITI ARTIST & PROMOTERS WHO HELP BUILD HIP HOP !
Old Skool is a cut that is at least 10 years old. But what is Old Skool for me is House Music from
DJ STEW. My 1st DJ name was Rhthym D when I started 1985 while stationed in Germany. Learned from DJ Mike from home city (Charm City) B-more spinning cuts like "Cool It Now" - New Edition, "Oh Sheila" - Ready for the World" Stop Playing.
When House Music got HOT I flew home and purchased $500 dollars worth of unknown tracks, that only hand full of us from North East area on the base where up on. House Music is my first love in music.
Old school to me for hip hop was back in the day with Sugar Hill Gang, Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, Afrikka Bambadda... you know the late seventies when HipHop was really getting it's recognition. Then on the R&b tip you got of course the Purple One, Luther Vandross, Alexander O'neal, MidNight Star, etc. especially the artist before these people.

Yea Old Skool is different for each age group. Like me, I am 19 so by me spinning mainly for teens, old skool to us is most of the 90's stuff.... But I know how to take it fact for the oldheads 2! LOL.. Not tryna call no one old on here, but you know what I mean! LOL
I consider everything over 10 years old to be ol school , as time goes along the ol school eras will expand. So u gotta know how ol school to go with some people , example somthin ol school to a 21yr old today would be totaly diffrent to a 21yr old from 10 years ago . i was born in 76 and i came up in the 80's ... 80's baby .....
Man, this post thread could last forever! I agree, I would have to say old school is from the 80's and older. That era was crazy! The question is, "is how far back do we go"? Seems like the 60's really started the 'groove era', but cats like Brook Benton were makin' tracks in the 50's that we could bob our heads to now. Ray Parker is a good look. I'm just learnin' how thorough the independent R&B game was here in Denver in the 60's and 70's. I'll post some names later. A lot of cats were influenced and guided by Earth, Wind, and Fire who have deep roots in Denver.
Old-school is anything 8 years and older. By the time a 19 year old reaches 25 the tracks he/she used to listen to when they weren't old enough to go to a proper club, once played again, will have the same effect as a track that a person 40 will have from a track from when they weren't old enough to go to a proper club.

Everything older than 1994 is old-school to me!
shoot i can remember watchen RUN DMC walk this way and SALT N PEPA push it on mtv in the mid to late eighties, but for me i fell in love with hip hop in the early ninties.92 Kris Kros JUMP. SNOOP AND DRE one two three to the fo

I'm learning when people say Old School they mean good music.

i grew up in the 80's old school music to me is: Lakeside, Confunkshon,Parliment and the funkadeliks ect...
I LIVED HIP HOP SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRL. I KNEW ALMOST EVERY WORD TO ALMOST EVERY SONG. . I DIDNT JUST PICK UP A MIC ONE DAY AND START RAPPIN.I STUDIED IT FOR YEARS. WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR GONNA GET OUT. I THINK THATS WHY MY MUSIC IS SO VERSITILE. NONE OF THOSE PEOPLE I NAMED BEFOR CAN BE COMPARED TO ANOTHER. EACH HAD THEY OWN STYLE. THATS WHAT I THINK SEPARATES OLE AND NEW SCHOOL. TODAY ITS TOO MUCH OF THE SAME CONTENT. I GOT THIS SONG CALLED COOKIE CUTTER RAPPERS. (ALL YALL COOKIE CUTTER RAPPERS ALL YALL COOKIE CUTTER TRAPPERS. ITS LIKE GOING TRICK OR TREATIN AND PULLIN THE SAME PEICE OF CANDY OUT EVERY WRAPPER. YOU TELL ME WHAT FUN IS THAT, THE ART OF RAP NEED TO TALE IT BACK....
Mid to late 70's til mid to late 80's. My forte is Miami Bass and Freestyle. Been spinning that since 85 and still going strong.
