Since the age of 5, DJ Munk has had the love for music. Starting out at her father’s church, she started as the choir director over the youth, but as years went by her love for music had gotten stronger, so she began playing the drums and the bass guitar for the children’s choir. In 2005, DJ Munk and her wife started coordinating events for lesbians in Central Texas. Realizing the need for musical entertainment, she soon found herself with a strong desire to expand her musical horizons.

While working at a club called Karma as a bouncer she fell in love with Djing. Knowing that she had an ear for beats and rhythms, she wanted to learn more about what she fell in love with. Standing and following (#1 Street DJ) DJ LL learning the basics and LL telling Munk and others "3 months she'll be good to go" . After watching many other DJ’s spinning in different night clubs with so many different styles and types of music, DJ Munk decided she wanted to shake things up a bit. In 2008, she purchased DJ equipment, but had no intention of playing it out, - until she started getting numerous repeat offers for gigs. Munk began DJing local house and private parties, weddings and charity events, then in 2009, she ventured into new territory and teamed up with DesDem Dj’s. Already established DJ Quan, DJ Tex, Third Coast Unlimited, and Bonefide Productions, saw her energy and quickly took her under their wings and setting her up with Karma as the Tuesday Night DJ for Pride Nights.

Being Austin’s first lesbian Hip-Hop DJ on the scene, DJ Munk, doesn’t let that stereotype affect her. DJ Munk is a dynamic DJ. Her style ranges from Motown to Underground. She’s DJ’d for local crowds and crowds across Central Texas. Munk has an energetic stage presence and calls herself the “Sexists Stud DJ around”. Not only can she rock the dance floor, but she can also mesmerize any crowd with her shocking vocals.

Although having a family and full-time job, Munk knows that much of getting known relies on self-promotion. When she isn’t hanging out with the family or playing drums, on the bass, working, gigging, promoting, or planning events, she’s squeezing in more knowledge of the sounds of the streets.
