Picture I had an interesting interview with an upcoming rapper who goes by the
stage name, “King”. Before you prejudge him, you will find that he has
been through much and has overcome even more. I found King to be
articulate and intriguing. The young rapper is currently under
management with SeurJamz Entertainment. Click here to hear what King has
to offer http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5047669

Who are your musical influences? “My musical influences would have to be
Lil Wayne and Jay Z because they have a different understanding of what
music really is. I believe that music is much more than the cars, money
and jewelry; it's about using music as a platform to make history. Jay Z
understands that good music can make you a legend and write your name
in history. You can live forever through music and that's my goal. Lil
Wayne paved the way for me as far as music goes because he made it ok to
express yourself through music. Wayne doesn't care what the world
thinks and he's not afraid to go outside the norm to make good music.”

Where were you born and any obstacles you have overcome that has made you who
you are today? “I was born in Gifford, Florida a little town inside of
Vero Beach, Florida. It's the type of place where the only option a
black man has is jail or dead. For me the only image of success I ever
had was success from selling drugs. The drug dealers had all the money,
nice cars and girls. So as a child growing up those were my role models
and I wanted to be just like them. All of my friends that I grew up with
are either in jail, been shot or dead. I got in some trouble in high
school where if found guilty I could have faced 30 years to life and by
God's grace and lack of evidence I was able to escape that hell. That
experience changed my life and luckily I was able to make it out of the
hood because of sports. College showed me a different form of success
and it motivated me to make the type of music I make today. I want to
use music to pave the way for kids that are in the situation I was in.”

What hardships have you over come? “The biggest hardship that I've ever had
to overcome was losing my college football career. I was blessed enough
to be a nationally ranked football recruit in high school and I had a
very successful football career in college. Right before my junior
season I was diagnosed with a heart condition that ended my career. It
was hard for me mentally more than anything because I had so much NFL
potential and I saw football as a way to get my family out of the
situation they were in. Imagine working your whole life towards a goal
and everything that you worked for was taken from you because of a heart
condition that you were born with. But I believe my fanbase follows me
so strongly because of how I fought back from that. They love how I went
from going so hard at one thing to going to a entirely different
direction and going just as hard. Everybody loves a good story.”
