Meek Mill Talks Hurricane Sandy's Impact On His Album Sales

This has been an interesting week for Meek Mill. His debut album Dreams and Nightmares hit stores, just as  Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast as a tropical cyclone, ravaging buildings, flooding cities, and leaving many without electricity, food, and shelter.

Mill, whose highly anticipated release saw a few pushbacks, explained that he was more concerned with making sure victims of Sandy were okay, than album sales. "This storm has been crazy," he said. "This is my first release, and I'm supposed to be so happy for it. But the same day my album came out, I was more worried about how my family was holding out and a tree falling on my house."

The largest storm to hit the East Coast in years didn't spare the 25-year-old's hometown of Philadelphia. The state of Pennsylvania confirmed seven deaths brought on by Sandy, and is investigating the cause of six others.  Several retailers shut their doors during and after Sandy, a move that could dent Mill's first week sales figures, but that's the furthest thing from his mind. "My focus wasn't on stores being closed," he continued. "I had a packed house, filled with my family, making sure they were good during this storm.

"I made a great album and it will sustain itself. Real people do real sh-t; my fans will buy the album when they are able to."

Early projections revealed that Dreams and Nightmares will push between 170-200,000 units, and land in the Top 5 on the Billboard album charts.

Now that the album is out, Mill will have more opportunities to promote the release, embarking on the MMG Tour kicking off tonight, in Columbus, Ohio.
