Some artist just have a knack for bringing out the best in new talent. T-Pain is one of those artists. Since coming into the game with his hit “I’m Sprung” Pain has made a name for himself by adding another dimension to every other he’s worked with. Now he’s turning his attention to finding new artists to lend his magic to. It looks like the lucky recipients of his golden touch is the group Sofia Fresh
The Texas trio are the new priority for Nappy Boy Ent/Atlantic Records and their mixtape shows why they are the focus of everyone’s attention.
Blending Rap, Rock and R&B, Sofia Fresh resemble a new millennium version of TLC. Skye, Crystal and Cole Rose use “So Freakin Fresh” to show why they are worthy of the praise and adulation. Opening with “What it is” Sofia Fresh bring you to the club with this up-tempo track. The production is crisp and sounds like it can fit into a Dj’s play list right now. Add a verse from the Louie Vuitton Don himself Kanye West to the mix and you have all the ingredients for a hit song!
Sofia Fresh stays in their lane for the most part, dropping ready to go club hits on this mixtape. Tracks like “Kid n Play”, “Drop It” make you feel like your listening to this CD in the middle of the dance floor. Not to stay too predictable, songs like “Something” and “Doing me without You” show-off another side of Sofia Fresh, giving you a good story line to go with the out of control production.
Working with T-Pain obviously has it benefits. One being exquisite production and hooks, the other being major name guest stars. Aside from Kanye West, Cee-Lo and T-Pain show up on the disc.
Overall, Sofia Fresh shows that they can make music for the young crowd and the clubs, over time we have to see if they can really live up to the TLC comparisons by dropping more of a variety of music.
