DJ'S BREAK RECORDS OR SO THEY SAY BY IKING PRODUCTIONS ON WORDONTHESTREETS MAG

NOW THIS WAS A DICUSSION I SAW & RESPONDED TO ON WORDONTHESTREETS MAG THIS WAS STARTED BY SOME DUDE NAME IKING PRODUCTIONS THIS IS WHAT HE SAID. AND I POSTED MY RESPONSE BELOW!!

THIS IS WHAT IKING PRODUCTION SAID:

Dj's are the ones who are suppose to give every artist a chance. I understand that every artist dont have the same level of talent; but what happened to the days of breaking a record. Nowadays everything is money oriented. Basically if you have a good "PROMO" budget you can get heard no matter what the talent sounds like. Who is really to blame for Hip Hop's stagnant state? I would like to focus on the dj. Here is what it comes down to. You have Big Name Dj's yelling on the radio and interviews about how "every artist sound the same" and "this aint real hip hop"; but they themselves refuse to break new records. They then blast the consumers for not having an ear for talent. Let's be honest, a lot of the artists out now are garbage. To even go further, a lot of internet/myspace artists are garbage as well. But they get further because they are most likely affiliated with the dj. I'm not knocking noone's hustle, but this is killing the artform.

For example, Boogie Down Productions would not have been heard if Red Alert did not give them the break they needed. Remember Mister Magic was frontin on them because he was down with the Juice Crew. He gave that chance to let the people decide and the rest is history and everyone involved became legends/icons. The last legends we had was BIGGIE & PAC respectively along with Snoop and the DPG. That was the last time records were being broke. I remember listening to Wu when Protect Ya Neck was still a demo. I still have it on tape actually. Those were the nineties and a different era they say. The people had their say. We actually made Jay-Z, Nas, Onyx, Das, Black Moon etc. But they are from the last golden era which was the nineties. Do you really think..and be honest..do you really think people are calling up the stations and requesting lil wayne songs left and right? Not to knock him or his hustle...but i doubt it. Dj's should break the records not me. How many times do you get an artist throwing his music on your page..self promotion is cool..but it would be a lot easier if dj's would break new artists.

Dj's be yelling but they aint telling. This goes to all dj's. Don't tell me that your tired of whats out now and how garbage it is..YOU have the power to change it noone else. Remember one thing..dj's and producers will always have gigs..artists won't. They are only good as their last jam..and who spins it. The underlying problem is that good artists are being kept out in the rain while these garbage emcees are sneaking through the back door. I'm not even going to mention payola..thats another blog for another day. But just give someone a chance..truthfully..if you think a song is hot give it some spin. Don't tell the artist " I like your music" then request a filing fee. BREAK THE DAMN RECORD!!!!!

"THE GIFTED" DJ M.O.B.'S RESPONSE....

THERE'S STILL SOME REAL DJ'S OUT THERE THAT STILL BREAK RECORDS AND BREAK ARTIST!!! LIKE MYSELF, I KEEP MY EARS TO THE STREET. FOR EXAMPLE TRILL TALK...I DO AN OPEN MIC ON TUES CALLED "SHOW UP 2 SHOW OUT" I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF TALENT & NON TALENT IN MY MARKET (JACKSON,MS) BEING THE OFFICIAL DJ/MUSIC DIRECTOR FOR THAT EVENT. I TOOK IT UPON & PUT MYSELF ON THE LINE (RISK KILLING MY CROWD) TO TAKE THE SONGS I FIGURED WERE HOT FROM MY MARKET, & MAKE THEM HOT!! BY PLACING THEM INTO MY MIXXES CLUB OR MIXXTAPES. A GREAT DEAL OF THOSE SONGS THAT I'VE MADE HOT OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS.. HAVE MADE IT EASIER FOR THEM TO GET ON THE RADIO ( I DIDN'T ASK FOR A DIME @ THE TIME). BECAUSE THE PD'S & MD'S FROM THESE STATIONS COME INTO CLUBS I GET DOWN @ AND GUESS WHO THEY LISTEN TOO??

NOW WITH THAT BEING SAID ARTIST ARE ACCOUNTABLE AS WELL. LET'S BE CLEAR..IT'S ALOT OF ARTIST THAT GET THE BIG HEAD & SWEAR THEY ARE THE REASON THEY ARE ON OR THEY THE SHIT. IT'S A KNOWN FACT THAT ATLEAST 95% OF RAPPERS WHEN THEY DO MAKE IT THEY FORGET ABOUT THE DJ'S, PROMOTERS, MUSIC CONSULTANTS..OR WHOEVER HELPED TO GET THEM ON (ASK WENDY DAY). I'VE HAD ARTIST TELL ME "ONCE THEY BLOW UP THEY GONE THROW ME SOMETHING" OR WHATEVER. DO YOU THINK MOST ARTIST ACTUALLY KEEP THEY'RE WORD??? HELL NO!!! OUT OF ALL THE RECORDS & ARTIST I'VE BROKEN I'VE ONLY GOTTEN A FEW THANK YOU'S FROM THE ARTIST THAT I'VE HELPED MAKE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES!!! THEN ALOT OF NEW ARTIST DON'T UNDERSTAND "PROTOCOL" WHEN I GOT MY CROWD ROCKING DON'T STEP TO ME & DAMN NEAR DEMAND THAT I PLAY YOUR RECORD. THESE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW YOU'RE RECORD & REALLY DON'T CARE TO HEAR IT..ALL THEY WANNA HEAR IS THE HITS!!!

I GIVE OUT MY EMAIL ADDRESS & INFO TO SUBMIT NEW MUSIC. IT'S DIFFICULT FOR ME TO CHECK OUT YOUR SONG WHEN I'M TRYING TO GET MY NEXT HIT READY TO MIXX IN TO KEEP MY CROWD ROCKING!!! SO DON'T JUST POINT THE FINGER @ THE DJ'S. SAYING DJ'S ARE THE REASON HIP-HOP IS FUCKED UP. NIGGA PLEASE!! WHAT ABOUT COMMERCIAL RADIO, THE WACK ASS A&R'S AT THESE LABELS. MOST ARE OLD WHITE DUDES OR LAME ASS BLACK DUDES THAT DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT WHAT'S HOT IN THE STREETS. THEY ARE JUST FOCUSED ON FINDING THE NEXT LIL WAYNE!! SPEAKING OF LIL WAYNE THIS NIGGA CAME OUT BEFORE HIS ALBUM & SAID "FUCK ALL MIXTAPE DJS" NIGGA ARE YOU SERIOUS?? IF IT WASN'T FOR THOSE MIXTAPE DJ'S...LIL WAYNE WOULD NOT BE AS HOT AS HE IS NOW!!! POINT BLANK PERIOD!!

THESE INDUSTRY FUCKS HAVE CONDITIONED ARTIST TO BELIEVE THAT DJ'S ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT OR WE'RE THE ENEMIES. REMEMBER IN THE 80'S WHEN THE DJ USED TO BE APART OF THE GROUP??? IN THE 90'S WHAT HAPPENED?...THESE LABEL HEADS & INDUSTRY FUCKS PUSHED THE DJ INTO THE BACKGROUND & MADE IT ALL ABOUT THE RAPPER. THEREFORE ALOT OF RAPPERS FORGOT WHO IS THE BACKBONE OF THIS HIP-HOP/RAP SHIT.... THE DJ!!! IF IT WASN'T FOR DJ KOOL HERC & OTHER DJ'S IT WOULDNT BE NO SUCH THING AS HIP-HOP OR RAP!! SO IF A DJ HAS THE INFLUENCE TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOUR RECORD TO GET PICKED UP BY RADIO & TAKE YOUR RECORD TO A NEW LEVEL. WHY NOT BREAK BREAD??( I MIGHT AS WELL GET SOMETHING NOW CAUSE MOST LIKELY YOU'RE NOT GONNA GIVE ME NOTHING LATER) IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO INVEST IN YOURSELF IT'S NO REASON FOR YOU TO BE IN THE GAME..CAUSE YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO SOONER OR LATER. BREAKING RECORDS IS MORE THAN JUST SPINNING IT IN THE CLUB OR PUTTING IT ON A FEW MIXXTAPES!!! IT'S A JOB...& I DON'T KNOW TOO MANY PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR FREE.
