Congratulations to Chauncey Billups and the Denver Nuggets for advancing to the western conference finals, after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in their best of 7 series.
They extended their record to 8-2 in the post season and have now won 16 straight home games. And are going back to the western conference finals for the first time since 1985.
Billups though relieved about closing out the series, showed little excitement after the game, stating in a post game interview “There still a lot of business to take care of.” referring to making it past the conference finals and into the NBA finals.
Billups, of all players understands that the conference finals is nothing to get excited about considering he’s now been 7 straight years, yet only appearing in the finals twice during that span. Last night’s win gave him the longest streak of trips to the conference finals amongst active players.
With that thought process in mind that tells us he’s not looking past the conference finals where he the Nuggets will face either the Rockets or the Lakers. At the beginning of this series I thought the Rockets had a chance to win this series but so much has changed.
Yao Ming’s injury totally changed this series, even though Houston won one with out him. A lot of Laker fans began to panic thinking that L.A. would blow it in this series. However it wasn’t a sign that they would lose this series, it was just a sign of this teams inconsistency once again.
Once Yao went out the Lakers really should have ran Houston out of the gym, that’s what a championship team would have done. Do you really think if Dwight Howard were out, that Boston wouldn’t take advantage of Orlando?
The Lakers will win the series over Houston, but if they take that inconsistency into the conference finals against Denver, then they’ll be watching the finals from the house.
