I might be putting my age out there but Old school to me is King Tim the 3rd, Jocko, Cold Crush Bros,Furious 5 mcs, Fantastic 5, The L Brothers, Sweet-Slick & Sly (NJ) Chic, Fat Back Band, Mean Machine (The First Latin Hip Hop Hit record ), Seqence (B. Angie B aka Angie Stone), Funky 4 plus 1 more, Crash Crew, Jackson 5, Osmonds, and I could really go on all day....
Dang I'm being skooled right now and feel all wet behind the ears. My dude said"And if your smart mmmm u better stop fooling around hey hey cause if you don't she will too ooo." LMAO you betta believe it!! This is timeless and I would bump this daily. Sounds like an older version of Jamie Foxx's JUST LIKE ME. Nothin new under the sun I see.

I am an 80's baby...I grew up listenig to SWV, Hi-Five, Tevin Campbell, Another Bad Creation...just to name a few. "Old Skool" to me is Rick James, Marvin Gaye, Dianna Ross--for these artist came up in the timing of my mother and my grandmother...anything past 70 years is considered a "wax track"--A-track bound.
This is what I think..Let me break it down..If the track was recorded in the mid 70's to the mid 80's it is a rare groove track, from then on its old skool.. up to 10-15 years from now..and this will always be an on going discussion..

You want old school... I was born in 1975!

Picture this:

- Solid Gold (dancers were hot...some still got it now, esp. Darcel, Pam and Cooley!)
- Dance Fever
- Breakin'
- GMF/Furious 5's "The Message" (aka "Check Yo' Self")
- Taco's "Puttin' on the Ritz"
- Price is Right (...and I mean Barker before his hair went gray... and the models? HELL, YEAH!!)
- Family Feud (John O'Hurley and Ray Combs is cool... but Dawson's still the man!)
- The Jeffersons
- Wheel of Fortune (WAY before Pat & Vanna, it was Chuck & Susan)
- What's Happening!! (Go, Rerun!!)
- Dy-no-mite!!

Music-wise: Roy Ayers ("Running Away"), Freda Payne ("Band of Gold"), Thelma Houston, Lipps, Inc., Rick James, Bob James, Roger Troutman/Zapp, Paul Hardcastle, O'Jays, Sugar Hill, Lou Rawls, MFSB (SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUL TRAIN, anyone!?), Parliament, B.B. King, James Brown

ANNND...

I bet you all know her! Vanessa del Rio of "Get Money" and "NYPD Blue" fame... ;)

old skool means different things to different people. depends on how old you are. But i think old skool is pretty much music in YOUR elementary school days.
