My weapons from back in the day:
It took me a year to get enough bread for my first pair of 1200's back in 1987. In fact I still have them today. They have been in the shop three times but now they have an internal ground and monster cables:

In 1990 when the only sampler people had seen was on a episode of the Cosby Show when Stevie Wonder was in the studio, I bought a EPS Ensoniq 16 Plus. I actually financed the $2,000 to get it using my 1986 Jetta as collateral. It came with 1 Meg of storage. I bought the big boy expansion: 2 megs!

Man I miss the days when DJ's and Producers were very serious about the craft. Now some one can buy a laptop and a program and call themselves producers and DJ's. Although I rarely spin anymore, I still keep the DJ on my name because of the time, sweat and energy I put in from 1983-1997. The skills gathered by carrying crates, fixing Peavy speakers and using nickels on my needles have made me a much better business man, videographer, producer, manager, leader, etc. In fact, in one of my companies (www.answer360.com) the term Dj'ing has come to mean doing many task at once while making it look and sound seamless. God Bless The DJ!
Yo that some real live shit !! I went threw the same things when i was Dj'ing !! Took me a while for a my 1200 to come !
I had 1 table longer than i had em both !1
yep my first set was numark 1400s , a radio shack mixer with toggle switches that I installed to transform,,, I mowed over a 1000 acres of land to save up for the 12s, still use em, the first sampler I had was onboard a gemini mixer,, I still use a zoom streetbox for my drums,,, a korg triton extreme and a mpc 1000 for remixing,,, Puttin in work to use them all together,,, I was remixing some stuff on the fly at a club,,,, acca wit some different beats and a guy who called himself dj so and so wanted to know how I was doing it,,, he had no clue on how to use a accapella like that,,, I couldnt beleive that,,, but a lot of djs here are that way, cant mix, cant cut, cant remix, cant beat juggle, I guess Im just old school I like to work my equipment and give the people a show,,, Im not knockin people who use mixmeister, virtual dj and all that, but to me that just keeps you from learning the art
Man, I remember when I use to put dimes and pennies on top of the needles to keep it from jumping. I got my first mixer from Radio Shack. Ya'll remember that motherfucker!!!! Man I made some classic mixes with that shit. Had the real analog dials on that shit. 1200s......shit I had one 1600 and a 12. Now try mixing with that shit!!! Had the dial knob in all for the pitch. That shit was kind of sweet actually. In the D niggas would sell their lunch tickets to go buy fuckin records. Damn I miss them days. AND HOUSE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttt. That was that real headnood music. Thats when house music was the shit. (1983 to 1991 for niggas who wasn't born yet) Anyway, we come a long way from them days. I love the technology these days but I still can fuck some sit up with them records. Trust Me!!! Serato made it easy for niggas to mix.....shit BPM's..........What!!!!!!!! Nigga use your fucking ear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats what that motherfuker is made for!!!! And these producers.........Half these niggas wouldn't know how to play a fuckin piano if Stevie Wonder was there instructor. OMG and don't talk about fuckin Reasons and Melodyne software which a put you right back in key. Give me a break. Damn I had to actually play a guitar and learn drums. Thank god we had JDilla(R.I.P) nigga. LOL to all real DJs and producers.

I bought my first pair of technics used from one of my boys (on a month by month pay). They were is bad shape. I was djin' a couple of college parties, but wasn't egttin paid nothin. The good thing about it was that I worked for a radio station and get the diplicate albums for free. I also bought this no name mixer. Man, when you are starting off, you make anything work!

Yeah i was a Lasonic BoomBox pause button beatmaking professional with a table top stereo with a Pyramid Mixer with a nice line switch. Then first summer gig at 13 saved everything and got my 1st Technics 1200 with a audio technica am 50 mixer then steppin up to a Gemini Jazzy Jeff signature series piece then cuz needed money to go to prom so he sold me his Technics1200 the following spring so now 2 tables and mixer the dude been puttin in work since.
i feel ya bro, i was rocking lineartech belt drive 1600 with the gemini mixer with with the 8 sec sampler for years until i maxed out my credit card for the technics 1210's. as far as records.. my cousin divorced her husband back in 1997 and she gave me all of his records from 1980-1993, i was in heaven. to be honest with you i think these new dj's should dj with actual records to appreciate what we had to go through and then they would respect the craft more
