With The Number 1 Overall Pick The Los Angeles Clippers Select...

With the NBA draft taking place three days from now there’s a lot of questions about who’s going to be the number two and number three picks. With out a shadow of a doubt Blake Griffin is the number one guy, but some people believe there’s a chance that the clippers will make a deal that could actually send Griffin elsewhere. That’s all just speculation.

Over the next few days we’ll discuss, by pick, what each of the top four teams will do with there first picks. We’ll start with the Los Angeles Clippers who once again have the top pick. In the past the Clippers have had some great picks the problem is they don’t show any commitment to winning so over time they can never hold on to the players that they draft once those players’ contracts expire.

This year may be a little different. Their roster consists of two dynamic point guards in Baron Davis, an up and coming talent in Eric Gordon. Al Thornton who led the team in scoring and rebounding as a rookie. They also have a few notable veterans in Marcus Camby, Cuttino Mobley, and Chris Kaman. All of these guys averaged double figures in points last season.

However only one of those guys averaged double figures in rebounding and that was Camby. Add Griffin to that roster and instantly the city of L.A. becomes a city divided. Griffin averaged 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds per game, now add those numbers, his size and his ability to run the floor, and shot blocking ability and you have something special in the Clippers organization.

Even if the Clippers can’t hold on to the veterans that they currently have, they still have a nice young nucleus to build on. Gordon and Thornton are each coming off impressive rookie seasons very much like Oklahoma City who is building it’s team around young players such as Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, and Russell Westbrook.

If the Clippers do go along with the obvious pick they will be a team to reckon with for years to come, and at the end of the day let’s not forget they’re based in L.A. Most players are intrigued to play for teams based in big markets and L.A. definitely falls into that category, and with a player like Griffin, playing for the Clippers may look even more attractive to future free agents.
