I had posted a reply on the forum topic on some of this. I live basically in Nashville ,, I attend college and have grammy nominated producers and engineers, etc etc , always coming to have audio panels. We discussed everything that is going on in the music business, with all the digital deals, myspace, soundclick, facebook, linked in, and so many ways to market yourself,,, most people are realizing you dont need a deal to make it. Unfortunately Big Labels are now realizing the only things they truly have to offer is MAJOR MARKETING and MAJOR DISTRIBUTION,,,, thats it. When a up and coming artist can sell music on the streets and put all his money in his pocket each day,,, hes gonna tell you why do I need a deal.. One of the guys on our last panel said he saw a couple of guys on the corner selling cds for 3 days, his 3rd day he finally asked the guys how many cds they moved a day,,, each had different numbers but one sold on average 300-500 a day at 15.00 ,,, when our panelist asked him if he would take a major deal,,, the guy said why,,, Im making and taking all my money,, I know the big labels in nashville,, once you are signed and they want to put a album out ,, they give you a 250,000.00 budget just for the studio and making the album,,, until you sell enough albums to pay them that back alone,, you are in the red,, as they call it,, so typically you could never see a penny from a album release. The folks on this panel are basically all oold school producers, songwriters, and publishers,,, They in a round about way told us that INDIE is the way in this day and age,, you have more control over everything,, and can actually make more potential in your pocket income..... they said a major record deal today is not the same as the major deals of prior times,,, I fully understand what they mean,,, we today have all the tools on a computer to make press packages, marketing kits, cds, production,, all you have to do as indies is stay on your grind,,, and you can market yourself to superstar status without oweing the major labels all the proceeds of your album realeases barely making anything.....

The industry is dead and to me the reason is because people are getting hip to how these labels work and how they run the labels are making artist and indies have to learn more and do more to get a deal and once you have did the work and you have learn how to make money doing it whats the reason to sign and lets be honest the game is going are has gone digital from ringtones to downloads now of days all you need to win is a strong internet game and some love from from the djs and record pools like Core Djs the way to beat the labels at there own game is to find the same companies that help them run smooth like outside companies that help with their marketing promotion and radio promotion and video promotion but be careful when dealling with some outside radio promoters cause not all of them can really break your record like the say they can cause lets be real the game sometimes is dirty and a lot of guys will tell you they broke such and such record but in real life the only work on about 4 station on breaking the record you might have to get more than one radio promoter and what ever you do dont just hand them 25,000 and be looking sad when you dont get your 250 spins a week cause u was boo boo the fool of the week you let them ge you 4 to 5 stations if your spins show u then if you trust them you get 4 to 5 more stations with them well thats it for today guys i will be back with more info

well to get a artist hot you have to work with hot djs and promote the hell out of his myspacepage and facebook and get him a PR agent and let dj pools do email blast on him like hitmenn dj, core djs,Greenhitz,cybersapp,BumSquad-etc......... thats going to run you about 3000 amonth for the PR agent and about 5000,to 7000 to do all the blast

You dont need to send a demo unless you have a good conections with a a&r at the label that your going after to get the deal with if not it will be a waste of time labels and A&R want to see a following with the artist the want him hot before they think about signing a act unless you just cool with a A&R so good that he just walks it in to the boss and get you sign
