Ruby Red is a song that explains the negatives of using drugs from an addicts perspective. Trick expresses the fact that waking up with headaches and chest pains as a result of his addiction is no longer what he wants in his life. Trick succeeds in his delivery by keeping the song light and airy- almost comical- instead of heavy and preachy.
