Hey, I was asked a question just yesterday at a seminar..., Mr. Chestnut with the economy being the way it is today, what is the purpose of a DJ Pool for aspiring artists or labels who are unsigned or signed and have a budget? What can they do to help me today..? How can I get in contact with them when no one returns our phone calls to help us?

To me this is what's effecting our economy and urban communities on top of killing HIP HOP and the culture and making the founders of this gift very upset and dissappointed...because of poor business practices from regular human beings who feel they are God's gift because they have an accredited position in the music and entertainment industry or finally apart of something and too selfish to help someone else reach their dream. My advice to all executives, DJ's, etc.....never under estimate a persons worth, please fix your business practices and don't be afraid to create your own lane.

You just might get that blessing you have been looking for! Stand Up For What You Like and Run It! The Money Will come back to you 10 fold if you really love doing what you do for God first, he is the creator of music. Start showing him some respect you will be amazed at the doors he will open for you if you share your gift of spinning new hot music and artists with a purpose. I personally feel that DJ's play very safe. If it's a hit they play it. Do that make you a "GREAT" dj or a a safe DJ? When I DJ on the radio or at a club I always look to break records. Whats the purpose of us being in record pools and purchasing albums. And when I break new music and see the crowd slowly dispearsing I never hit the panic button and quickly throw on Cupid Shuffle or a Fatman Scoop track to save the crowd. HAHAHA.

The DJ has always been the backbone of Hip Hop. Hip Hop is a little watered down, but you can't just put it on all djay's. Some blame has to go to some record labels to some degree. I mean you hear what's on the radio. The Djay is playing what he's told to play at least I'd like to think that.So to some degree Diddy is right. The formula for getting spins is sit at home and come up with craziest dance and boom you in there. Me personally I wish djay's would break more local MC's. As my man KRS says people think record sales make you the dopest therefore it gets played. That's BiggTodd's stand what's yours?

I agree with Diddy to a point. Let's face the truth, there are plenty of stations and DJs that will not play anything outside of the BOX. When you break it all the way down you got artists who make whack ish connected to DJs with big names that put them on, but ther are also DJs who strive to find that next hit. It's just who's perception of what a hit record is these days. In my perception a radio hit doesn't even matter anymore, cause with the availability of the internet people and good DJs will seek out the good music. This gets me to the programm directors and radio. Radio is now a gift and a curse. They play all of this bubble gum ish cause they are feed it by these big labels, but they also give DJs an opportunity to get artists out there in the way of mixshows. Even if you do not have a song that PDs support, if you get it in the mixshow and people like it the record will eventually break based on listeners feedback, which means that this is the kind of music that will have staying power. AS CLUB/MIXSHOW DJS WE ARE AT FAULT FOR BEGINNING THINKING LIKE PROGRAM DIRECTORS AND SIMPLY PASSING ON WHAT WE JUST GOT FEED FROM THE RECORD LABELS WITHOUT PUTTING THE MUSIC THROUGH THE SMELL TEST. We definitely are part of blame.
